This service really works - I've used it myself with great success since October, 2002 - Vonage was recently mentioned by FCC Chairman Michael Powell - "...2002 saw the introduction of reliable Internet telephony services as companies such as Vonage are providing an alternative to analog wired telephony over a broadband connection."

With Vonage Digital Voice, you get unlimited local and long distance calling, great features like Caller ID, Call Waiting, and Voicemail and you only pay one flat price.

If you already pay for high speed internet, why not take advantage of it and lower your phone costs. Go ahead, talk as much as you want, whenever you want, to whoever you want. One simple bill.

Use it like you use any telephone. You pick up the phone, hear the dial tone, and dial the telephone number of your choice. There are no extra numbers to dial and no special routines to follow. Itís simple. You donít have to be a tech geek to use our service.

You can be up and running within minutes of receiving your Vonage package. We send you everything you need. No technical experience needed! Setup is easy...

We brought together the two biggest networks in the world, the PSTN (standard phone network) and the Internet. This is called Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and is the most cost-effective means of communicating. We use the emerging standard in the VoIP industry called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). This allows us to provide you with unsurpassed high speed internet phone service.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      1. Can I use my computer with your service?

Your computer is not required to use our service. If you want to use your computer to surf the Internet and talk on your telephone at the same time, you will need a router.

      2. How does Vonage DigitalVoice fit into my current home network?

Introducing the CISCO ATA 186 into your current home network, so that you can use your PC at the same time as your Vonage service, is easy as long as you have DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) and NAT (Network Address Translation).. A cable/DSL router such as the NETGEAR RP114 that we sell provides both these features.

      3. What happens to my service if I move?

Take it with you. Your Vonage DigitalVoice service can be taken wherever you move as long as you have a high-speed Internet connection. And your phone number goes with you.

      4. Is it easy to set up?

Itís simple. In five minutes you can have your service up and running and make your first phone call.

      5. Can I keep my current phone number with your service?

Your Vonage DigitalVoice telephone number will be a new number. You can pick from our available area codes codes, even if we donít have your area code yet. Within selected Vonage service areas you may transfer your existing phone number from your current telephone service provider to Vonage DigitalVoice. (Check availability in the Sign Up procedure. )

      6. What area codes do you have available?

Vonage is adding area codes all the time, the best place to check for availability is direct from the source, click here!

      7. What are the startup costs?

When you subscribe to Vonage DigitalVoice, you will pay a one-time activation fee of $29.99, your first monthís service charge and $ 9.95 for shipping and handling. If you order a NETGEAR router, there will be an additional charge of $39.99. Service charges are subject to a 3% Federal Excise Tax. If you reside in New Jersey, you will also be subject to 6% sales tax.

      8. What do I do with my current phone provider?

We want to be your new home phone provider. To prove it we offer a 30-day risk free trial. After you subscribe we're sure you'll want to replace your current phone provider with Vonage DigitalVoice. Within selected Vonage service areas you may transfer your existing phone number from your current telephone service provider to Vonage DigitalVoice. (Check availability in the Sign Up procedure .)

      9. Does unlimited mean local and long distance calling?

Unlimited means you can call anyone as many times as you want for as long as you want in the United States (including Hawaii and Alaska) and in Canada. No boundaries. No limits. We do not distinguish between local and long distance calling.

Personal Experience with Vonage Digital Voice

      Ordering and Installation

Since this is a very new type of service, we wanted to experience it firsthand before promoting and selling it. We found the signup website to be informative and easy to use. After we placed our order, the package from Vonage arrived after only two business days! Installation was very simple and quick, as advertised.

      Quality of Service

Overall we're very pleased with the service. Most phone calls are of fine audio quality.

Occasionally our called party complains that our voice "broke up" briefly, similar to a temporarily poor cellphone connection.

But for the great majority of phone calls this is never a problem.

It should be noted that most broadband internet providers (either DSL or cable modem) limit their upstream speed to something between 128 - 256kbps. Since the Vonage DigitalVoice service requires 90kbps, we have learned that for maximum voice quality, it is best to limit use of the internet connection during phone calls, especially any upstream data usage, such as sending email or transferring files.

These limitations do not detract significantly from the overall attractiveness of this product, however.
